Relentless, The REV from flight404 on Vimeo.

Found this video a while back and it’s still playing through the back of my eyes. Check out flight404‘s website. Super tasty and visually most satisfying.

Shout out to Processing for making such amazing, creative and deliciously open-source application.

Up to three downloads that never expire!
January 25th, 2009 by Nueva Forma™

We’ve just implemented a new feature on the Nueva Forma Shop that gives you up to three remaining downloads on your purchased digital music. These three remaining downloads never expire, so if your hard drive crashes and you didn’t make a backup of your tunes, you’ve got three more lives. We enjoy extending these kinds of conveniences to you in appreciation of your ongoing support. That’s why we only offer the highest quality music encoded at 320 kbps, DRM-free.

In the near future, we’ll also be providing FLAC-encoded music, which means the audio has absolutely no loss in quality, just like a CD. We’re working hard to release more tangible albums soon, and will be concentrating more on vinyl and USB rather than CD. The custom CD packaging for the Nueva Forma Social Club Vol. I is in the works, and should be available for purchase in limited edition batches next month. Please sign up for our Nueva Forma newsletter to stay in the loop about our label and artists.

Many thanks,
Nueva Forma

SoundBulb – the Marriage of Sound & Light

Three's Company

Three's Company

SoundBulb is a concept dreamed up by three designers, being Hoang M Nguyen, Poom Puttorngul & Anh Nguyen. The idea of it seemed so marvelous and problematic that I thought it’d make a worth post after all.

Masmöd Live at Aleatoric – Video
January 22nd, 2009 by Nueva Forma™

Masmöd live at Aleatoric from Nueva Forma on Vimeo.

Here is a video of Masmöd performing “Asphalt” from the Nueva Forma Social Club vol.1 at the Someday Lounge. The sound that night, as always with the Someday Lounge, was terrific. Props to Aleatoric for organizing the night as well as to Cloudburst, Demi & Cutter and Mike Jedlicka for bringing out the fine tunes that night. :)

In the same vein as Microsoft’s Songsmith in that it was a music thingy, Electro-Harmonix’s Voice Box is a gem of a thing.

Moving Brands moved me, man
January 19th, 2009 by jem™

Moving Brands is an international branding agency focusing more on the multi in multimedia. Their installation and interactive work is fantastic. This first installation was what caught my eye as something else:

The simplicity and minimalistic qualities of their work and image lead to great work. This showreel will give you an idea of the power of the “brand” if you weren’t a believer before.

Their website has a healthy offering of clips and photos from their portfolio. Fun stuff.

Ableton Live 8 looks good

Ableton Box Sets

Ableton Box Sets

The only real news we can see about Live 8 is through their video presentations, which are actually quite good. They go on to talk about their latest and greatest improvements with the application, new partnerships and new specifically-made devices.

I’m just having a hard time really hearing the thunder of the improvements. The upgrade from 6 to 7 was huge, enabling multi-core support, not to mention adding a slew of new add-on instruments for sound design and just plain fun. The new improvements, although great, really, just don’t feel as crazy awesome as the last upgrade.

DRM-free from iTunes doesn't mean "free"
January 16th, 2009 by jem™

Last Tuesday iTunes finally decided to get their act together and ditch DRM- something Nueva Forma knew was devious and wrong from the start. So isn’t this great news? Apple is finally getting their shoes polished of all of this DRM shit. BUT, as it turns out, they’re going to have you pay to clean off their shoes. Yeah, you heard me right.

squint or click, it's up to you eagle eyes

squint or click, it's up to you eagle eyes

Although this news is pretty dis-heartening, I’m really not surprised. I feel pretty bad for all of you iTunes invested folks- me not being one of them.

Microsoft Songsmith = Cousin Murphy
January 14th, 2009 by jem™

Just because you have the audacity to believe a laughable advertisement for Microsoft’s Songsmith and download the free trial does not make you a singer. At all. It makes you no more a singer than all of that karaoke performing at the local Sushi bar makes you a Sushi chef.
